Who developed the curriculum?

The first program, Super Phonics, was created by a classroom teacher for use with his own students. He shared this program with a couple of teachers in his school and before long it had spread throughout the district. More than 70 titles and over 20,000 schools later, Essential Skills programs are still developed by classroom teachers with the same goal in mind; engage, educate and motivate students to learning success! These programs are now offered to parents in their own homes.

My child is struggling. Can the program help?

The reading program's activities are designed to strengthen your child's aptitude for the foundational skills required to master the educational expectations of any curriculum. The programs are highly interactive in such a way as to appeal to all types of learners, from visual, to auditory, to kinesthetic. The interactive nature of the programs, designed to increase learner engagement, helps to foster a sense of independence, agency, and metacognition - essential attributes of any successful teaching experience. Children are highly motivated and encouraged each step of the way.

Can my child take the programs on their own?

Yes, they can. We have some members that prefer to work through the activities together with their student but it is entirely optional.

I can't hear any audio. What can I do?

PC or Laptop:

  1. First, reboot your computer.
  2. Ensure that the computer isn't muted via hardware. Press any external mute buttons, confirm that the speakers are turned on, and turn the volume all the way up. Test by playing a song or using the Sound Control Panel (click the Sounds tab, select Asterisk, and click Test).
  3. If that doesn't work, check Windows. Left-click the volume icon in the system tray and verify that the audio is not muted and is turned up.
  4. Right-click the volume icon and click Open Volume Mixer. Ensure that all options are on and turned up.
  5. Internal speakers still not working? Plug headphones into the audio jack and test again. If the headphones work, remove them to continue troubleshooting the internal speakers.
  6. Right-click the volume icon again and choose Playback devices. Confirm that your audio device (likely Speakers) has a green checkmark next to it. Click Properties and make sure that Use this device (enable) is selected.

Tablet:

  1. Make sure the tablet is not muted.
  2. Turn the sound all the way up.
  3. Close all apps and reboot.
  4. Restore the tablet to factory settings.

The program isn't running properly. What can I do?

This current platform was only launched a few months ago so your feedback is important to us. We'd like to help get the platform working properly on your system.

Our programs are thoroughly tested, however with the vast number of operating systems, platforms, browsers and browser versions along with varying internet speeds it can be challenging to account for every scenario.

To help us pinpoint the problem, please tell us which platform version (Windows Desktop, iPad, Android), operating system and browser you are using by emailing a Contact Us form.

Alternatively, when you launch a learning unit, click the "i" button in the top left. This will open a top menu containing a "!" button that will allow you to submit an error ticket. This ticket will also automatically send us the information requested above.
